Max Flinn releases new heartfelt lyric video
Singer-songwriter and Texas-based standout, Max Flinn, recently released his second album single “Tie Me Down” with a heartfelt lyric video featuring fan wedding portraits. Flinn, known for his self-aware lyrics, wrote the modern country love song in his classic-country style. “Tie Me Down” is the follow-up single off his upcoming EP and is streaming on all platforms. Max is performing shows in Texas, following COVID-safety protocols, leading up to the release of Meant to Be in early 2021.
Q: What inspired you to write “Tie Me Down” and what was your process for writing it?
A: I got to a point in life where I realized it was not fair to myself or the women I was dating to continue in relationships where I didn’t see a long-term future. Not long after I made the decision to date with the intent of marriage, I met my wife. I immediately knew there was long-term potential and I was willing to make any sacrifices necessary to be her husband. This song is about my transformation.
Q: Fans submitted hundreds of heartwarming wedding photos for the lyric video, which turned out great. How did that idea come about?
A: My fans are WHY I do this. It is our shared experiences that I write about. They are reflected in the words I sing so it made sense to have them reflected in images for this video.
Q: Are there any artists in particular that you grew up listening to that have strongly influenced your music?
A: I was most heavily influenced by the Texas country artists of my childhood like Cory Morrow, Pat Green, Robert Earl Keen, Roger Creager, etc.
Q: You are touring through the end of the year, following COVID safety protocol, so it’s limited capacity and fans are seated at tables instead of in crowds. How has that been going and what type of show can fans expect?
A: Everything is bigger in Texas as they say! We are lucky to have venues in Texas with enough space to spread out for music lovers to safely enjoy concerts. Me and the band are going to put on the same show as usual so our fans can engage in whatever way makes them most comfortable. We have found that ranges from gettin out on the dance floor with a mask to hanging out at their tables.
Q: I heard you’ve been invited to open for one of your musical heroes, Robert Earl Keen, later this month. Can you share about that upcoming show in particular?
A: I am so excited for this show! Robert Earl Keen fans are serious music lovers. It’s gonna be an incredible opportunity to play to that crowd who may not be aware of what I do and transition them into fans!
Q: Texas has an unparalleled music scene with the most loyal fans. Why do you think that is?
A: The Texas music scene is all about the live show. I’ve never heard of a “YouTube sensation” rising to prominence here in Texas. When you look at some of these local guys (Cody Johnson, Parker McCollum, etc) that have signed major deals they did so because people were selling tickets. I am grateful to live in a state where I have no problem booking 200+ shows per year. Texans spend money on music and our venues take good care of artists. I am not convinced I could make a living doing this full-time anywhere else.
Q: You’re EP Meant to Be is coming out in early 2021. Is it a precursor to a full album in the near future?
A: I hope to release a full album by the end of next year. I think it’s so important to stay out in front of fans with new music.
Q: What was the writing and recording process like for the EP?
A: I wanted there to be something for everyone on this project and I think we did a good job with that. My producer, Bobby Terry made sure that we had all the right musicians on this project to deliver a timeless sound. A real highlight for me was having my guitar hero Brent Mason play on one of the tracks.
Q: What do you want people to take away from “Tie Me Down” and the full EP in terms of introducing yourself as a rising country artist nationally?
A: My goal as an artist is to always be authentic. I want my songs to have real substance and allow the listener to get to know me as a person.
Q: What else can we expect to see from you in 2021?
A: My plan for 2021 is to continue growing as an artist and reach new listeners. I hope that as music lovers get to know me and my music, I will continue to open for artists like Robert Earl Keen.
